Face off: Face Moisturizers

I tried guys, I really did. I ran out of a moisturizer and wanted to broaden my horizons so I tried a new one. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Today's face off is between the Origins GinZing Energy Boosting Moisturizer and MAC's mineralize Charged Water Moisture Gel.

MAC $39 and Origins $26
These two moisturizers have very similar consistency and both are 50 mL of product so they are very easy to compare - if you like the feel of one chances are you will like the feel of the other.

First we have Origins GinZing Energy Boosting Moisturizer.

This moisturizer does not win the battle for me. I like it enough and I will use the rest of it up but I already bought the MAC one as it's replacement. This moisturizer is scented, which I do not mind but some people do and the scent will linger on your face. I also notice, probably because it is energizing, that my skin does get a little red after I apply it - I am very fair skinned, my skin turns red easily and is extremely easily irritated. The con for me with this moisturizer is that it doesn't moisturize quite enough for me, areas of my skin get very dry especially in the cold winters. I do get oily in my T zone which I can normally control when the rest of my face is moisturized well but this moisturizer just wasn't intense enough for me. With a $26 price tag it is cheaper than the MAC one and there are plenty of people who swear by it, I am just not one of those people.

Both have a similar texture and consistency
Now for the winner...

Since I first discovered this moisturizer, I believe when it was initially released, it has been a holy grail item for me. I have gone through 4 pots of it already, which was why I was interested in trying something new (and less expensive). This moisturizer feels so light when going on the skin but it really works. I can get extremely dry and scaly patches on my chin that burn when water touches them and this is the only cream that I can use that will make them go away and not make me want to cry at the same time. There really isn't a scent to this moisturizer which is also a plus if you have sensitive skin. I use this all year long however there is no SPF (no SPF in the origins either). I use this gel morning and night and my skin reacts really well to it.

Let me know if you have tried either of these and which you prefer. Also, let me know of your holy grail face moisturizers so I can give them a try!

  1. This is a wonderful an informative post. I also have fair skin, an oily T-zone, and an oh-so-lovely (not) tendency to get lizard-like dry patches on my chin and neck, so obviously your reviews of these moisturizers was very relevant to me!

Next time I'm passing the MAC counter I'm definitely going to try some of this stuff out.
